Events

Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024. I'm so excited to participate in World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) for the second year in a row! Scores of authors volunteer their time to meet online with students around the world to celebrate the magic and power of BOOKS and STORYTELLING! I'm meeting with a class in New York, a class in Minnesota, and two classes in California!

Calling all Colorado (and beyond!) middle grade, young adult and New Adult writers! Lighthouse Writers Workshop and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of SCBWI will host their first Writing YA Mini-Fest March 16 and 17! (Don't let the YA in the name fool you. If you write for tweens, teens, or older "young adults," this is the place to be.) Check out the full schedule here.

I hope you can join me for a couple of events on Sunday!

Sunday, March 17, 2024, 12:30 pm-1:30 pm, MG VS. YA Smackdown! at Lighthouse Writers Workshop, 3844 York St. (the new location!), Denver, Colorado. Middle Grade and YA authors "duke it out" over which is best: writing for middle graders or older teen readers (and, along the way, offering lots of info and tips for writing for either/both). This is one of the weekend's two post-lunch business panelsTEAM MIDDLE GRADE, LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Chop Shop: Ruthless Revision, 2-4 pm, at Lighthouse Writers Workshop, 3844 York St., in Denver, Colorado. If you'd like to make the novel revision process less painful—and, dare I say, mostly enjoyable?—please join me for this in-person workshop. We'll tackle "developmental revision" strategies, where we'll take a big-picture look at your story and goals. After killing a few darlings, we'll get into some nitty gritty line editing. Don't stress about the words "chop" and "ruthless" in this workshop title. We're going to keep things chill, fun, and productive. You'll leave with a step-by-step plan for revising your novel!
